Adjustable Rate Mortgage
Adjustable rate
mortgages are generally amortized from 15 to 30 years. Some Lenders
will do 40 year terms as well. The interest rate remains fixed
for a predetermined period if time. Such as 3/1, 5/1, 7/1 or
10/1 ARM.
An example would be a 5/1 ARM. The rate is fixed for 5 years
initially and then is reforecasted based on a set index and margin
at the end of the 5 year term. Payments of the loan can be of
principal and interest or interest only.
